Interview with Keaton Adams

What inspired the creation of your new E.P. Wrong & Right?

Keaton Adams: The E.P. is about the yin and yang of life—the interplay of the good and the bad. It’s a reflection of my own experiences growing up, dealing with the complexities of relationships, and navigating the fine line between right and wrong. Through this E.P., I wanted to capture those moments of struggle and triumph, offering a raw and honest look at the journey of life.

Can you walk us through the themes and stories behind each song on the E.P.?

Keaton Adams: Absolutely. Each track on the E.P. tells a unique story:

  • ‘Wrong and Right’: This song is about embracing the present and letting go of the past. It’s a reminder that life is fleeting, and we shouldn’t waste time dwelling on what we can’t change.

  • ‘Magic Mirror’: This track delves into a particularly rough period in my life when I saw myself differently than others did. It’s about the struggle with self-perception and the journey towards self-acceptance.

  • ‘What is Love’: This song tackles heavy themes of drug abuse and domestic violence, told from both perspectives in a troubled relationship. Featuring Ione Brown, it offers a powerful narrative on the complexities of love and the pain it can sometimes bring.

  • ‘Not the Devil’: This song is a declaration of my efforts to move past my mistakes and be true to myself despite what others might think. It’s a testament to personal growth and resilience.

  • ‘Sit by the Fire’: The final track brings the E.P. full circle, emphasizing the importance of simplicity and connection. Sometimes, all we need is to gather around a fire with loved ones and share our stories.

How did the recording process for this E.P. differ from your previous projects?

Keaton Adams: The recording process for this E.P. was notably simpler than my past projects because it’s acoustic. This approach allowed us to focus on the lyrics and the emotional weight of each song without the need for elaborate production. It was a more intimate and direct way of conveying the stories I wanted to share.

Did you collaborate with any other artists or producers on this E.P.?

Keaton Adams: Yes, for the song ‘What is Love’, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Ione Brown. She brought an incredible depth to the song by singing from the woman’s perspective, adding layers of emotion and authenticity to the narrative.

What was the most challenging aspect of creating this E.P., and how did you overcome it?

Keaton Adams: The most challenging aspect was the overall process of putting everything together—creating a cohesive plan and executing it effectively. Balancing the creative and logistical elements was tough, but staying focused on the message I wanted to convey helped me push through.

Do you have a favorite track on the E.P.? If so, why does it stand out to you?

Keaton Adams: My favorite track is ‘Not the Devil’. I’m particularly fond of the music and the lyrics that speak to my determination to rise above my past mistakes. It’s a deeply personal song that resonates with my own journey and growth.

How do you hope listeners will connect with the music on this E.P.?

Keaton Adams: I hope listeners find an emotional connection with the music. Whether it’s through the lyrics or the melodies, I want them to feel the same intensity and vulnerability that went into creating these songs. Music has a unique way of touching hearts, and I hope this E.P. does just that.

Were there any particular influences or experiences that shaped the sound and direction of this E.P.?

Keaton Adams: Given our budget constraints, we aimed to create something raw and relatable for our fans. Making it acoustic allowed us to highlight the lyrics and the emotional core of each song, ensuring the message came through clearly without any distractions.

Can you share any interesting or memorable moments from the studio sessions for this E.P.?

Keaton Adams: One memorable moment was when I asked Ione to learn ‘What is Love’ with less than a day’s notice. She came to the studio and absolutely nailed it, bringing a powerful and heartfelt performance that elevated the entire song.

What message do you want to leave with your listeners through this E.P.?

Keaton Adams: I want listeners to know that it’s okay to go through tough times. Life can be incredibly hard, but it’s important to take a deep breath and focus on what truly matters. This E.P. is a reminder to embrace the journey, no matter how challenging it might be.
